Portraits

All photographs are self portraits...

“Every portrait that is painted with feeling is a portrait of the artist, not of the sitter. The sitter is merely the accident, the occasion. It is not he who is revealed by the painter; it is rather the painter who, on the coloured canvas, reveals himself.”
― Oscar Wilde, The Picture of Dorian Gray

Dianne Arbus asks us to lie in wait until the veil is torn back for a second and the trauma both of nature and the person is exposed. The shutter revealing the unguarded moment. The sitter and the photographer equally exposed.

If camera is a window into the soul.. then whose soul are we looking into?
